Neuromarketing? What's next?

I honestly don’t think there is anyone in the modern world that has not been the victim of neuromarketing. You know its going on, you can even remember times that you bought x instead of y because of their cool new add... Oh, you think not? What kind of jeans are you wearing? Even though you can get higher quality cheaper at Walmart? Thats marketing.

It wasn’t all that long ago that if you saw a Pepsi in a movie, well, you really didn’t. You saw a can that resembled a can of Pepsi but the label read Cola because if they had used the real product they could be made to pay royalties to Pepsi Co for every movie ticket they sold. But things have been changing and a considerable part of this change has come about because of studies into neuromarketing. Now companies pay artists, producers, etc to include their products in the artists work, they sponsor the artists work. Think Chevy & Hawaii 5 O, (ever see them drive a Ford?) Pepsi & XFactor, Winston & Nascar, (ok, Nascar gave them up because smoking is bad for you, but still) the hits go on & on. I heard one the other day that truly rocked my world, couldn’t believe it.

Jason Aldean’s hit “Take a Little Ride” was released as a single on July 16. In the early part of September Jason signed a promotion deal with Coors Light/Coors Banquet. They agree to sponsor him and help promote the release of his fifth album, Night Train, and he appears on a few posters and some adds in 2013. The album was due to be released October 16. When the new album came out one of the songs had undergone a slight, almost unnoticeable, modification. If you are familiar with the song you will recognize the line “swing by the Quickstop, grab a couple Rocky Tops”. But, if you happen to have a copy of the single released in July the line, as you are familiar with it, goes more like this:”swing by the Quickstop, grab a little Shiner Bock”. (To hear the original as released version visit Jason’s site at : http://www.jasonaldean.com/story/news/jasons-new-single-take-a-little-ride-hits-radio-and-itunes-today)

It really surprised me to learn that an artist had actually changed the lyrics of his song and re-released it because of a new partnership with a sponsor, but if you ask me I think it was ingenious on Coors’ part....

Put it back, the mountains aren’t blue yet
